There’s a lot to enjoy about Spring with the warming weather, flowering trees, and birds singing. But what about Spring and your commercial windows? All of that sunshine may be exposing layers of pollen dust. Those same birds might become a nuisance with constant droppings feel like a taunt! If you can’t recall the last time your windows were professionally cleaned, then take note of this post which illuminates the reasons why routine cleaning works wonders for your windows.
Glass cleaning on a routine basis protects against degradation.
Glass is semi-porous by nature, which means it can absorb contaminants. If there’s so much dust on your windows that you can finger paint messages on them such as hope springs eternal then you’ve potentially got a problem on your hands. Decaying organic matter such as leaves, pollen, and sap have a low acid content that when mixed with rain water can slowly erode glass.
If organic matter is left to sit and buildup over a period of time, the resultant acidity can degrade the glass’s smooth surface and leave it pocked with an irregular texture. As such, the glass is more vulnerable to further absorption and staining. This is why it’s recommended to have windows cleaned twice a year in the Spring and Fall-environmental threats are removed after each season.
Periodic window cleaning will keep the glass looking clearer, longer.
For coastal areas, the high concentration of atmospheric sea-salt in the air can slowly build up on the surface of glass. Coastal rainfall dries up, leaving salt deposits behind. Repeated deposits will eventually whiten the glass overtime. Eventually this creates a fogging effect and the glass loses some of it’s transparency. If you’re a hotel, restaurant or retail business, this can great affect your customer’s experience. Clean and clear windows are vital for showing off your property or products. A routine squeegee cleaning program can reduce the severity of salt buildup.
Hard water can lead to mineral buildup, which cannot be removed via general squeegee cleaning alone.
Landscaping sprinklers are another variable to watch out for. Water sources coming from wells or traveling along old pipes can pick up various minerals along the way. Limestone, calcium and phosphorous are particularly troublesome for windows. Landscaping sprinklers on the ground that hit the bottom of window panes can lead to a buildup of hard minerals on the surface of the glass. As a result, this whitens them and makes them appear dirty. Eventually visible shorelines can be seen.
It’s important to note that soap, water, and a squeegee will not remedy this problem. The process of removing water staining and mineral buildup is more of a restorative process. Restoration of a window pane is a more costly and labor intensive process involving resurfacing, sanding, buffing, and sealing of the glass.
Minerals can leach out from unsealed exterior brick or stone. These minerals run down and can discolor window glass.
