Introducing our new Before/After series. We begin with post #1: VCT tile flooring strip and wax! We recently revitalized this old vinyl composite tile flooring with a strip and wax service. The tile’s original color really pops. The floor itself is now properly protected with 4 new layers of wax. Shimmer and shine restored: check!

So there you have it: a fresh-looking floor that’s good-to-go with proper coat of wax! Keep in mind that wax prevents the tile from taking physical damage such as scuffs and scrapes. It’s also a moisture barrier, helping to prevent water from seeping between and underneath the tiles. This floor is not only easier to mop, but the life of the floor has been prolonged as well.
An important thing to keep in mind is that water based wax does not last forever. Over-time it can slowly flake and chip away. This is normal wear and tear that occurs with heavy foot traffic, carts, moving furniture, etc. As such, old wax can get ‘bald’ areas. These are essentially areas with little to no wax coverage. Due to the lack of protection, these areas attract dirt, grime and oil. With old or neglected wax, we begin by chemically stripping it completely off before giving the floor a good scrubbing.
