Floor, floors, FLOORS! Welcome to our floor rejuvenation series! At Better Cleaning we adore floors. Chances are, you’ve never taken the time to appreciate how much influence they have over how a room looks or feels. Think about it: whenever you walk into a new room for the first time, snap judgements are being made within seconds. Your brain processes many things, but one of the first and lasting impressions will be the floors. This is vital for businesses looking to create a certain ambience and mood. Think restaurants, health and wellness, and retail.
Old VCT tile floors with dirty wax, what to do?
The old adage goes: repair is cheaper than replacement. Old dirty floors can be revitalized in numerous ways. In this post we breathed new life into some old VCT (vinyl composite tile) with a strip, scrub and wax. In future posts we’ll deep dive into various types of hard surface flooring and the things you can do to prolong the life, restore that original shimmer and shine, and get your home or business a terrific new look at a great price!
Above is a before shot. These high traffic hallways in a busy commercial manufacturing facility get a lot of daily traffic. To begin the process, the old, yellowed wax along the edges were chemically removed by a stripping agent. This process also dissolves dirt, grease and grime that’s been ground into the floor. The middle of the floor had no wax, and was basically bald (err…no coverage!) Not good. Wax helps protect the tile itself from being scratched, marred or discolored. But water based wax does not last forever and can slowly be chipped away with foot traffic and other activity.
Floor rejuvenation after shot: deep cleaned and restored!
After the stripping, we gave this floor an aggressive machine scrub, rinsing, wet vacuuming, and then finally we applied multiple layers of new wax. And there you go…an old floor, magically rejuvenated! What a difference!
